Each gourd-shaped earring is formed by a beaten gold sheet, the top decorated with a lotus leaf, surmounted by an s-shaped hook.

葫蘆環在元代便已流行，至明，成爲宮廷后妃命婦正裝中常見的耳飾款式。各地元明墓葬中純金葫蘆環出土不少，參見甘肅省博物館藏甘肅省漳縣徐家坪出土的元代金葫蘆耳環，甘肅省漳縣元代汪世顯家族墓出土的金葫蘆耳環，江蘇省南京市中華門外鐵心橋出土的明代金光葫蘆耳環，江西省博物館藏江西崇仁明代程瑞墓出土金葫蘆耳環等，部分收錄于李芽著《耳畔流光：中國歷代耳飾》，中國紡織出版社2015年出版，第157頁。南京江寧將軍山出土的金光葫蘆耳環與本品極其相似，收錄于揚之水著《中國古代金銀首飾》2014年故宮出版社，第602頁。
