The upper section of the two-tined hairpin chased with a pair of sinuous chilong pursuing a floral blossom at the center, the reverse of the flower head incised with a character, yue; the thin prongs slightly curved.

釵股上部鏨為盤龍，顶托牡丹，蟠卷如雲，壓印鳞甲，是謂螭虎釵，元代創新的制式，細分若干種，每每成对，分量多在20克以下，本品近30克，極爲難得。

螭虎钗之所谓“螭虎”，原是俗称，雅称蟠螭。元张昱《无题二首》之二“咫尺香闺步懒移，搔头谁理玉蟠螭”，説的便是同类纹样的玉簪。螭虎钗的名称见于故宫本《碎金·服饰篇》“首饰”一节“北”条下，起源北方，后通行南北，或金或银，在湖北黄陂周家田元墓；湖南益王村元代窖藏；内蒙古赤峰市敖漢旗太吉合案村元代窖藏都有出土。
