In Conversation: Revisiting the Enduring Legacy of Fritz Scholder

We are honored to invite you to an exclusive preview of Fritz Scholder's seminal painting Four Indian Riders on April 29 at Freeman's | Hindman Denver. Last exhibited in 2009 for the artist's groundbreaking retrospective Indian/Not Indian at the National Museum of the American Indian, this evening presents an incredible opportunity to see this magnificent work in person before it travels to New York as the cornerstone of our Post War and Contemporary Art auction.

To mark the occasion, we have invited an esteemed panel of experts to join us in the discussion, examining the legacy and work of Fritz Scholder, his impact on Contemporary Art, and the market for Contemporary Native American Art.  We will also have artworks from our upcoming Western Art Auctions on view throughout the evening, including other artworks by Fritz Scholder, Earl Biss, Louisa McElwain, Duke Beardsley, Stan Natchez, Bill Anton, Edgar Payne, and more.

Panelists include Dr. Julie Sasse, Chief Curator Emerita at Tucson Museum of Art and author of Southwest Rising: Contemporary Art and The Legacy of Elaine Horwitch; Tony Abeyta, Contemporary Diné (Navajo) Artist; Dr. Annabeth Headrick, Director, School of Art and Art History, University of Denver. Moderated by Alexandria Dreas, Specialist, Head of Sale for Western and Contemporary Native American Art at Freeman's | Hindman.
