MORTIER, Pieter (1661-1711) - Guillaume DELISLE (1675-1726) Carte du Canada ou de la Nouvelle France et des Decouvertes qui y ont t faites. Amsterdam: Pierre Mortier, [ca.1708].Engraved map hand-colored in outline of Canada, image 484 x 570 mm (538 x 620 mm sheet) matted and framed. Decorative cartouche. (Marginal toning from matting, old corner repairs on verso, short tear to center fold.) FIRST EDITION, FIRST STATE by Mortier after Delisles' map first published in 1703, with EARLY HAND-COLORING. The map incorporates information from the Jesuit explorers, Joliet, and Franquelin. The decorative cartouche by Guerard includes depictions of explorers, priests, Native Americans and a beaver.
