An American Mahogany Tall Case Clock
CASE BY STEPHEN LEE, CIRCA 1770
the hood having a broken arch pediment centered with an urn form finial and carved shell and rocaille decoration, above a glazed door flanked by tapering columns and enclosing a brass dial with Roman numeral hours and Arabic numeral minutes, further set with seconds and date dials and signed Paul Rimbault London, the straight trunk flanked by fluted pilasters and raised on ogee bracket feet, having a musical movement striking on nine bells, playing "God Save the King" and other melodies.
Height 96 1/8 x width 20 3/8 x depth 11 inches.
Note:
Affixed to the interior of the trunk is a handwritten note that reads: John Hughes Esq./ Bo(?) of Downes by Lee/ June 4, 1770/ Musicall clock/ Rec'd at same time the above in full/ Stephen Lee./ Upon the back of the paper is written/ Stephen Lee/ for the clock.
