Eastman, known for his Indian scenes and illustrations in Schoolcraft's "Historical and Statistical Information...of the Indian Tribes of the United States" attended West Point and taught drawing there from 1833 to 1840. This is his first book and became the first American textbook on topographical drawing to be used at West Point.
