Single action percussion spur trigger pocket revolver with five-chambered fluted cylinder, top strap groove rear sight and brass cone front sight. Top of barrel marked in two lines: ADDRESS COL COLT/NEW-YORK U.S.A. Patent date mark in cylinder flute, matching number on barrel under loading lever. Right rear of frame marked 31CAL under hammer. Revolver is contained in a factory compartmentalized wood case with a dark green velvet lining. The casing contains an "Eagle & Shield" motif flask, an Eley cap tin and Root combination screwdriver. A display label plaque and a key that does not fit the lock are also included.
