Chanel Haute Couture Suit, 1960's


Ordered from Chanel at 31 Rue Cambon in Paris by Merle Reskin in the early 1960s.

THE FIRST
Cropped length cardigan jacket in rose red wool bouclé tweed. Stand collar. Wrist length sleeves with working cuffs and cufflinks; three-piece sleeves. Gold-tone metal lion's head & red silk round buttons. Two patch pockets at front lower edge with diagonal fold-over flaps. Fully lined in rose red silk habotai with windowpane quilting to tweed shell throughout. Concealed metal chain at interior hem, inside lining.

THE SECOND
Dress in rose red silk and wool bouclé tweed. Collarless, long sleeve blouse in silk habotai with extended turn-up shirt cuffs. Asymmetric closure at bodice front, displaced to right of center; system of snaps, concealed buttons, and hook-and-eye closures at bodice and waist.
Knee length, straight cut skirt in wool bouclé tweed. Fully lined in rose red silk habotai with windowpane quilting to tweed shell throughout. Two pockets at hips with diagonal fold-over flaps. Three lion's head button closures at skirt center front.
